Caleb & Noah

Who are we ?

Caleb Little

I'm the rules mule, so if anything sucks in the rules, you can blame me. I've always been fascinated by game design, and while I have no real professional or scholastic experience in making games, I spend a lot of time pursuing other creative avenues like art and writing. When Noah and I put our heads together about 5 years ago, we realised we might have to cobble together a custom system to satisfy our tastes, and in 2021, we started a company together and made it official. Metallurgent was going to be real, and we were going to make it.

I became a giant robot fan after Chromehounds and Armored Core 4 did untold damage to my creative tastes, though my fascination with machinery probably goes all the way back to Bionicle. From there it was Battletech, Patlabor, super robot shows like GaoGaiGar and Combattler V, and at this point I'm lost in the sauce.

Metallurgent is, therefore, mechanically reminiscent of a lot of these franchises we've come to know and love over the years. Anvils go together like Armored Cores, shoot like Hounds, move like Battlemechs, and act like Ace Combat protagonists. The mechanics, really, are designed to tickle my specific kind of brainworms, but I don't think I'm alone. With any luck, if you're reading this, you'll prove me right.

Favorite Design in Metallurgent: The Massasauga. Slap two Piledrivers on that one and go to town.

Favorite Mecha Anime: Gasaraki. 24 episodes of incredible storytelling, 1 episode of insanity. Top Three

Top 3 Mech Designs: Super Build Tiger from J-Decker, Gunleon from SRW, and the 04-Alicia from AC4.

Noah Sprinkle

I'm primarily the setting writer and project manager for Metallurgent, though we both do a lot of everything. The game came out of an idea I had for a campaign to run with my friends back in 2019ish, which we had no game system to run at the time. We tried a few options off the shelf, and eventually came to the conclusion we wanted things that no other game offered. And now here we are.

I've been a fan of giant robots ever since my mom bought me a transforming space shuttle when I was six, and it hasn't ever stopped since. I got into BattleTech in high school, and got into mecha anime around the same time. I love all forms of the mechs, from the super robot end of the spectrum all the way down to western walking tanks. It's been a real treat to see the genre expand in popularity with the resurgence of BattleTech and the recent popular anime entries.

My inspirations for Metallurgent are all over the place, but if I had to pick a few I would say Battletech, Ace Combat, Pulp Sci-fi, Dougram, and old Cold War novels like Red Storm Rising. I want Metallurgent to stand on its own two feet, but also to function as an easier to adapt system for people who want something in the middle of the complexity scale.

Favorite Design in Metallurgent: The Vodnyavuk. I love the Soviet bomber styling in the core.

Favorite Mecha Anime: Changes semi-frequently, but probably Armored Trooper VOTOMs.

Top Three Mech Designs: The Falguen from Dragonar, the Raven from Battletech, and King J-Der from GaoGaiGar.
